چکیده

The presence of a cholesterol esterase in blood serum was demonstrated by the finding (1) that a marked esterification of free cholesterol occurs on incubation of untreated serum, but does not occur on incubation of serum which has previously been heated for 1 hour at 55-60’.1’ In studying this reaction further it was of interest to ascertain the effect of bile salts, first, because it is known from many investigations that they influence the enzymatic hydrolysis and synthesis of esters (3, 4) and, second, because it seemed possible that the increased proportion of free cholesterol, usually found in the serum of persons with diseases of the liver, might be associated with the accumulation of bile salts which presumably occurs in such conditions. In the present investigation the concentration of total and free cholesterol was determined before and after incubation of human and dog serum to which varying amounts of sodium glycocholate had been added. The bile salt exerted a marked effect which was

The Enhancing Effect of Sodium Glycocholate and Sodium Salicylate on Rats Gastro-intestinal Permeability to Insulin

There have been numerous efforts to formulate insulin into an oral dosage form. The major problems involved with the oral administration of insulin are acidic and enzymatic decomposition by the gastric medium, and poor absorption in the small intestine due to its macromolecular structure. This study attempted to test the enhancing ability of two absorption enhancers, sodium glycocholate (Na-G...

Cord Blood Lipid Profile in Premature, Near-Term and Term Newborn Infants

Introduction: The fetus needs a considerable amount of cholesterol for the development of tissues and organs.  Studies have suggested that genetic and environmental factors influence the composition of cord blood lipoproteins.  In this study, we aim to assess the effect of gestational age, sex and birth weight on the cord blood lipoproteins. Methods: We collected umbilical cord blood samples fr...

Synthesis of neopentyl glycol and ethylene glycol esters by fatty acids in the presence of acidic ion exchange resin catalyst

A most effective and less energy demanding method of producing fatty esters, diol esters, by esterifying fatty acids, with neopentyl and ethylenglycol alcohols in the presence of an acidic ion exchange resin catalyst(polyestyrendivinylbenzensulfated) was investigated at elevated temperature. In this process an azeotroping agent, toluene, was used to facilitate continuous removal of water by dis...

Enzymatic hydrolysis of steroid hormone esters by blood serum.

In recent years the concept of the specificity of enzyme action has been subjected to revision. The proteolytic enzymes (1) have been shown to have esterase activity and the concept of a blood esterase as distinct from a blood lipase is no longer tenable (2). The enzymatic hydrolysis of the steroid hormone esters by blood sera (3) had not been suspected until solubility determinations of the es...
